From a crazy idea, the Salt Hotel becomes a unique destination for tourists. To preserve the hotel, a strange regulation was put in place.
Where is Muoi Hotel located?
Located on the edge of the world famous salt fields Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, the Salt Hotel is officially known as Palacio de Sal. As the world’s first luxury hotel made entirely of salt, it is the ideal stopover for those visiting the magical Salar de Uyuni.
Don Juan Quesada Valda created this unique hotel from crazy ideas and the courage to make them happen. As a pioneer in the tourism industry in Southern Bolivia, rather than looking for something simple and done, Juan decided he wanted a hotel made from… salt.
Today, the Muoi Hotel is still like a magical reality, where the beauty of everything is connected. Today, this strange and beautiful legacy is still inherited by Juan’s children.
Although the Salt Hotel was put into operation in the late 90s. However, in 2004, this place was moved from the middle of the salt barn to the shoreline. This helps the hotel no longer encroach on the natural formation of the salt flats, as well as affect the daily lives of the people who live and work there.
The special of Muoi hotel
With a total of about 10,500 tons of salt, the Salt Hotel is made up of more than 1 million bricks of salt. Every detail from the walls, ceiling and interior in this 4,500 square meter building is made with the salt of the Salar de Uyuni fields.
A guide here shared: “At first, quite a few tourists didn’t believe it, so they tried… licked the utensils in the room to make sure they were made of salt.” This happens so often that the hotel has had to put in place a ban on licking the walls to protect the place from deteriorating over time.
The beauty of the outside of the Muoi hotel
Located in southwestern Bolivia, Salar de Uyuni is the world’s largest salt flat and is the result of thousands of years of transformation of prehistoric lakes. It has an area of about 12,000 km² and is located at an altitude of approximately 3,700 m above sea level.
Therefore, anyone visiting Salar de Uyuni and staying at the Salt Hotel wants to experience a magical feeling like walking on clouds.
