The Big Idaho Potato Hotel is, as the name suggests, a heavy-duty “potato” that mimics the popular potato grown in Idaho.
The Big Idaho Potato, weighing 6 tons and measuring more than 8 meters long, was designed and built by the Idaho Potato Commission. This “giant potato” debuted about 7 years ago and has traveled across 48 US states in a truck.

The potato hotel is recycled from steel, plaster and concrete. The Big Idaho Potato was created to promote this famous Idaho food – the Russet Burbank potato.

The potato hotel looks small, but the place is just cozy enough for 2 people. Facilities cannot be compared with traditional hotels, but still have enough basic equipment including a large bed, mini fridge, stove, fireplace… Photo: @emilysedona.

Now, the potato hotel is not on a truck, but is fixed on a 162-hectare farmland in Boise. So, if you don’t mind the “unspoiled plains” scenery, seeing only Mount Owyhee in this region and looking for new experiences, the giant potato hotel is for you. Photo: @erikabauer.

Traveler @travelingspud commented: “Sleeping inside a potato, dreams come true!… To be honest, I was a bit worried about no windows, but the hotel wasn’t bad at all! because there are air conditioners and fans”.

In 2019, potato hotels cost $200 per night on Airbnb. Photo: @with_a_gee.

Traveler @alexinwanderland went on to comment: “Best accommodation ever! I’ve spent the night in an oversized seashell, an underwater hotel, bubble tent and treehouse, and now… Every detail has been meticulously cared for to create a truly memorable, unique experience.
Located just 20 minutes from Boise Airport, it’s the perfect spot for the first stop on a road trip through Idaho.”
